MONTHLY DEVOTIONAL

THE RIGHT TIMING

“Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.” (Romans 6:16-18)

Every day of our lives we are pressured by time. Every moment we breathe, timing, and our perceived notion of time, is pressuring us into the decisions and choices we face daily.

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ,” 2 Corinthians 10:5.

Timing is all around us. Everyone and everything wants to tell us to be victim to the clock ticking all around us. The world tells us when we are supposed to go to school, when is the right time to pursue a career, or who to marry. Depending on our own socioeconomic status or nationality, we are expected or pressured into a particular career, that ‘fits’ us. The world around us will tell us when to get married, when to have children and how many children to have. There is an age for all these expectations and once you’re past that age, you can forget about it – anything you had a desire to do is no longer an option and you should just give up. On and on it goes, we are consumed by the world definition of life and living. How exhausting! We spend our time and energy trying to fit into a box that has been formed for us – or so we think. The world will try to convince us that if we do not conform into the proper look or talk, then we are an outcast.

How contrary and completely wrong is it to believe such destructive expectations. We can stand on God’s Word when He commands us to cast down every thought or imagine that tries to exalt itself over the Most High God and His will for our lives. In 2 Corinthians, God’s power can take captive every thought against His Will and His timing, to obey Him. We just have to exert our authority in Him and stand strong in truth. We declare that every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ alone is Lord – not just on the day of Judgment but even now – God is here, working and moving. May we change our perception and let everything align with God’s obedience and watch God move in our lives. His gifts placed inside of us, His Word, His Love and His nature is adversely against the world’s timing. Yet God has overcome the world, let us rejoice in that and keep our eyes on Christ.

Stand strong with your brother and sister, help each other to stand in God’s love and truth that even when things are not yet beautiful, God has still made us a promise. His promise is that all of us, who love Him and trust Him, can stand in His timing for our lives. When we do, we will experience God directing us into beauty, in His timing.

Be Blessed,

Patricia
